Age 11, our Finance Manager, Martina Pegler, became the face of world-renowned Italian wafer company, Loacker. Her “moment of fame” was revived this April at the family business’s 100th anniversary celebrations in their home city of Bozen, where Martina, who lives in Italy, was a VIP guest.
My parents were friends with the second-generation, brother and sister directors of the business; Christine was like an aunt to me, so when they decided to create the advert, she asked me if I’d like to be involved, and of course I said yes! The posters were on billboards all over Italy for quite a while.
I can’t remember much about it apart from when I walked past a poster in the city, I’d walk really slowing hoping someone would recognise me!
When I moved here to Gravellona my new friends remembered the poster, though they didn’t recognise the girl in it as me all these years later.
The company tasked with organising the 100th anniversary event didn’t know the family knew me, so ended up searching for me online and finding me via the Splash Projects’ website!
They put me up in a snazzy hotel in the centre of the city and invited me along to their conference event which had around 500 attendees from all over the world.
As the ‘face of Loacker past’, I was invited on stage with the ‘face of Loacker present’, at their outdoor event, attended by around 2,000 people. Later, when I was walking around, a reporter from a local newspaper ran after me calling out ‘I know you!’ asking for an interview – my moment of fame!
The poster is included in their anniversary book. Yes, they gave me a copy!
