Introducing Team GB powerlifter Wesley McGuinness – Splash Projects Adventure with Purpose ambassador

21 Jul 2022

Splash Projects has just become a whole lot stronger – Team GB powerlifter Wesley McGuinness has joined the team as an Adventure with Purpose ambassador.

While resilience, which Wesley has in spades, is something we laud here at Splash, it’s his passion to make what he does in life count – have purpose – which is our greatest affiliation.

The 33-year-old from Plymouth has recently returned from the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) World Bench Press Championships in Kazakhstan where he was ranked sixth in the world in the under 105kg weight category, and this August he is heading out to Hungary to compete with Team GB in the European Bench Press Championships.

The Royal Navy Submariner is one of three service personnel to be enrolled on the Royal Navy’s Elite Athlete Scheme and his selection to compete for his country came off the back of him becoming the first person in the Armed Forces to represent a world championship event including the IPF Commonwealth Championships 2017, the Arnold Classic Championships 2019 and the IPF World Bench Press Championships 2021.

This November, Wesley will head out to New Zealand with Team GB to compete in the IPF Commonwealth Championships where he will take part in bench press, squat and deadlift.

We are offering our support to Wesley as a sponsor while he will spread the word about our work, particularly our Adventure with Purpose adventure race coming in 2023, and hopes to come on board as one of our Project Leaders in the future.

He said: “I was looking for companies to link up with and came across Splash, and as I was scrolling through the social media posts showing all the project work, I really liked everything about it.

“I just thought, what a great organisation to be a part of – with all the projects supporting charities and disadvantaged people.”

He added: “I love the link between businesses and communities too, and that while businesses are helping with charitable causes, they’re seeing the impact their efforts are having, and this will have a knock-on effect with them doing more work in the future.”

Splash Projects Managing Director Simon Poole, added: “When we were approached by Wesley, I took a look through his LinkedIn posts and saw one where he said, ‘…over the years I have learnt that through discipline I get things done and whatever you’re doing make sure it has #purpose…’ – this is what we’re all about.”
