In June 2022 a team of 55 Imperial Business School students built a shaded seating area for young women at the Institute of Social Solidarity girls’ safe home in Faro, Portugal.
The home provides safe housing for around 20 vulnerable girls aged between 10 and 18 years old.
“Some of the stories about why the girls had ended up at the home were horrendous,” says our Operations Director and Project Manager Phil Weeks. “Improving their wellbeing was at the heart of the project.
“They had nowhere to sit outside, and during the pandemic they’d only been able to sit at tables of three inside, so it meant so much to them to have somewhere to relax together and socialise in the fresh air.”
