In May 2023 we facilitated two projects with INSEAD Executive Education teams at Hotel Etico in the Blue Mountains, Australia.
Australia’s first social enterprise hotel supports disabled hospitality trainees to skill-up and become more independent.
The facilities created by the INSEAD teams, employees of a leading energy infrastructure business, will support the trainees’ journeys learning skills that will help them have fulfilling careers and empower them to be ‘agents of change’ in the effort to dispel stereotypes and public misconception surrounding disability.
Two teams of 22 spent four hours each creating an outdoor games hub and an outdoor bar area, respectively.
Andrea Comastri, co-founder and CEO of Hotel Etico, said: “The key to our social enterprise model is creating social interactions between our trainees and the general public. This which is where the transformation happens for a more inclusive world.
Lloyd Comer, Splash Project Manager told the teams… “Your challenge is planning leading and executing the project; we’ll provide you with the skills and equipment, we just need your brains, your hands and your enthusiasm – buckets of it…I can hear you say ‘we’re never going to do it in four hours’ – you can.
Sharmila, a participant, said: “We had a very clear focus: we’re a group of cross functional general managers working together for the betterment of others.
Nigel, another participant, added: “We get to provide something that goes beyond the corporate world. That’s how teams are built because you have a value association with that aim.”
