This is Giorgio Fourage, a 24-year-old IE Business School graduate who is embarking on an epic circumnavigation of the world on a wooden bike.
Why?
Giorgio wants to use pedal power to raise awareness about sustainable travel to inspire others to opt for more eco-friendly modes of transport, while raising funds for Mécénat Chirurgie Cardiaque Enfants du Monde which enables children with heart abnormalities from underprivileged countries to undergo surgery in France.
He will leave his home city of Brussels in Belgium on Sunday 7th August 2022 and will cycle across Europe to South East Asia via Turkey, Iran, India and Nepal before dropping down through Vietnam en route to Australia and New Zealand. After taking in Peru, Bolivia and Paraguay in South America, Giorgio will begin the final leg of his tour back in Europe, travelling through Portugal and France, finally reaching Brussels around seven months after setting off.
The essence of his feat of endurance is closely aligned with that of our forthcoming Adventure with Purpose Challenge launching in the spring of 2023. This brand-new Splash offering will combine adventure racing with a purposeful, community project while raising awareness of the problems facing disabled wheelchair users in economically deprived countries.
We have worked with IE for many years facilitating their annual MIM Challenge which this year raised awareness about the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 6 namely, the inequality surrounding women’s menstrual hygiene. Giorgio worked with us and IE as a MIM Challenge ambassador and was a guest speaker at the business school’s Charity Day in June 2022.
We think what Giorgio’s doing is beyond amazing. We are supporting him as a sponsor and will help document his amazing adventure via our social media platforms.
