In June 2022 a team from global business consultancy BCG Milan transformed an underutilised space in the grounds of a refuge for vulnerable families in Southern Italy – in just four hours.
In the morning, the 20 colleagues flew from Milan to SOS Villaggi Dei Bambini in Ostuni, and in the afternoon built a six-metre x four-metre sail-style shelter as well as tables and benches.
Our teams are challenged, and so were we, as the call came in to us just three weeks before the desired project date, so we had no time to do a recce, but had to go in blind. Our Project Director Colin Robertson rose to the challenge with a brilliant result – the teams were fantastic and the project went seamlessly.
Colin commented: “It’s so hot there but there was no shade so no one could use the outdoor space. This project opened up a whole new area for the families to enjoy each other’s company and be outside. This will have a huge impact on their wellbeing.”
He added: “The team did brilliantly and was made up of volunteers who wanted to give something back in their own time.”
