Amplifon create outdoor social area for elderly

“By lunchtime, it was impossible to tell they’d only just met a few hours before,” said Splash Projects Project Manager Colin Robertson, following Amplifon’s Splash Project in Milan, in May 2022.

In one day, a team of 75 from the Italian hearing aid company’s IT department created a spacious shaded seating area at Gerosa Bricchetto residential home.

The team transformed the formerly drab space into an outdoor social area for residents who can now enjoy the outdoors year-round. Tables were also constructed which will double-up as potting surfaces so wheelchair-bound residents can contribute to gardening at the home.

Colin said: “Such a simple thing will make such a difference to people’s wellbeing.

“The municipal-run home would never have been able to fund this themselves.

“The addition of the tables mean that less mobile residents can be involved in the planting, whereas before they couldn’t.”

With its HQ in Milan, Amplifon employs thousands of people worldwide. The project brought staff together, giving them a chance to bond and build connections.

“They were absolutely committed,” added Colin. “Their attitude to get things done really stood out.”
