INSEAD’s MBA – August 2013 project

France

‘A lack of leadership is a lack of self-reflection’- Dr. Thomas Hellwig

Demonstrating the power of teams is an integral part of the INSEAD learning experience and a core objective the Splash Experiential Learning method. In this unique three day venture in rural France with the goal of building recreational facilities for the Ellen Poladtz Foundation, students were faced with changing conditions and their abilities to adapt to such a dynamic environment was put to the test. From time constraints, to supply shortages and an overall lack of experience in construction, future leaders had to think and act fast while communicating instructions to their teams.

Singapore

The INSEAD MBA 14J cohort ventured into the Salvation Army’s Haven facility in Singapore to build a comprehensive wooden play-area for vulnerable children. In a departure from conventional management wisdom, tasks were assigned using a raffle. This innovative technique placed pressure on students yet enabled them to adapt to situations that were foreign to them and in areas that were outside their skill set.
