Homeless Veterans Project in Taunton

Splash has recently finished a massive, 14 week project in Taunton, UK to convert the old office building used by the Taunton Association for the Homeless into 8 rooms for homeless veterans.

This build includes:

• 4 rooms on the ground floor that are to DDA regulations that have been designed for wheelchair use

• 4 rooms that are self-sufficient

• All with a kitchen, living space and access to a bathroom

• A communal living area

The new rooms will be used to house homeless veterans and support will be given by the Taunton Association for the Homeless on a 1-to-1 basis to help them back into the community and on to independent living.

Colin Robertson, Splash’s Senior Programme Manager that headed this project said “The guys that have come in to support us have given 100% and it has been a good all-round team effort to get this project completed”.

TAH will continue this support of the residents and will be able to refer them to other suitable support agencies to help with issues such as mental health and drug and alcohol addictions. TAH plans to train the veterans in mentoring also, so that they can become a valuable part of own services by mentoring some of TAH’s younger, more chaotic clients.

TAH will also assist the residents to eventually move onto more permanent accommodation. Although the residents will be able to stay for as long as they need in the accommodation, TAH see the importance in helping them to begin and sustain their own independent lives.
