Splash Projects and the Global Executive Leadership team of Sperian International designed and built a much needed children’s’ playground at the Children’s Inn at NIH in Washington DC.

This is the thank you letter we received from the Inn’s Director of Volunteers and Community Outreach the following week:

“The playground looks so nice and we couldn’t be happier on how it turned out. The best part was working with Billy and the guys. They were very professional, organized and kept everybody on task. Their quick wit and humor along with their charming British accents made the 90 degree days much more enjoyable. I was so sad to see them leave. You did a great job selecting them to work on our project.

When I went to leave work tonight, a grandmother stopped me and told me her son just came back from playing on the playground and they had so much fun. They ate pretend ice cream in the ice cream shop and had soda together. This was the same little boy that waited all day to get a chance to play on it. She told me he was in his 5th week of chemo and the playground was the highlight of his day. She asked me to tell the nice men that built it thank you. I had a tough time holding back tears. Earlier in the day, an Amish family came out and played. One of the little boys came up to Billy and I and said “Thank you for building the playground”. I think that Billy even had a tear in his eye (although he wouldn’t admit it). Just warms your heart.

This playground wouldn’t have been possible without your support and commitment to our families. I wanted you to know how grateful we are to you and everyone at Splash Projects”.

Splash Projects and Ulster Bank are delighted to have supported 174 Trust in the development of their new play space. This is the article that was published in the Trusts’ newsletter after our departure:

“We saw an exciting event take place at 174 Trust in North Belfast. Ulster Bank employees, together with the Splash Projects team developed and enhanced a play space on 174 Trusts grounds in Dublin, benefiting many children.

The 174 Trust is a non-denominational organisation that facilitates a variety of essential community projects including afterschool and preschool provision. The Trust offers opportunities and assistance to people of all ages and is committed to a process of community development based on building relationships with local people and working together to identify and meet local needs.

Steve Daniels, head of HR for the Ulster Bank Group worked with Splash Projects to co-ordinate the attendance of 54 employees of the bank for a one day ‘workathon’ that resulted in a beautiful play space being created. He did this with the support and expertise of Simon Poole, Director of Splash Projects, which is a company that delivers highly-rewarding community-based projects that motivate employees and develop their business skills, while at the same time giving staff and companies the chance to make a positive difference in the world. Steve and Simon had worked before on projects in England and this time it was Northern Ireland’s turn to benefit from their expertise, community spirit and downright hard work.

Five members of the ‘Splash’ team spent a number of days preparing the site for transformation and this is exactly what took place– a transformation! CONGRATULATIONS to 174 Trust, thank you to the Ulster Bank and well done to Splash for making it all happen”.

RBS executive team makes a Splash in India! Together with Splash Projects, RBS executive employees enjoyed a learning and development event with a difference in New Delhi. RBS employees have always been encouraged to get involved in community projects.

This year, for the first time, they collaborated to make a difference to the Deepashram home for mentally and physically challenged orphan boys in Gurgaon, India. The challenge was to to create an outside area for the children to explore and enjoy together.

Participants each tackled a different part of the structure – which included decking, seating areas, a sandpit and a play area. Beginning at 8.00, the teams had just eight hours to complete the playground in the pouring monsoon rains. Just after 5.00, the ribbon was cut and the playground facility handed over to the children and their carers.

The smiles on the children’s faces showed their delight and excitement, as they all rushed to take advantage of their newly constructed adventure. Simon Poole, Splash Projects Director, was full of praise for the way the team had gone about it: “Despite very little preparation time and difficult conditions, the participants immediately took ownership and got on with it. They’ve done a fantastic job.”
